Charleston Jazz Festival : Manhattan Transfer/ Take 6

These two extraordinary groups boast 20 Grammy Awards and a range of styles that covers nearly every genre of popular music; from jazz to swing, from gospel and R&B to pop. The concert includes each group performing a set, culminating with a duet featuring the tightest harmonies known in the music business as well as innovative arrangements and funky grooves.

 

The opening performance will be delivered by the Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) led by Music Director, Charlton Singleton. The CJO is comprised of the crème de la crème of South Carolina jazz musicians. The orchestra is an entertaining, educational and stellar example of the rich history and legacy of jazz in Charleston.  The CJO has become known for unique, enthusiastically received concerts that contribute mightily to the ever-evolving Lowcountry jazz scene.

Charleston Jazz Festival: FAMILY JAZZ DAY

The final day of the 2017 Charleston Jazz Festival will feature a Family Jazz Day featuring the Charleston All-Star Youth Jazz Orchestra led by Charleston Jazz Orchestra trumpeter and long-time music educator Stephan Berry. Family Jazz Day will also showcase the fabulous Charleston School of the Arts Jazz Band along with a special performance by some of Charleston’s most talented music educators!

SATURDAY JAZZ JAM! FEATURING THE TODD BEALS GROUP

Todd Beals is an accomplished trumpet player and long time member of the critically acclaimed Sam Rivers and RivBea Orchestra. Originally from Orlando, FL, Todd has performed all over the world including France, Jamaica, Canada and Japan and now calls Mt Pleasant, SC his “forever’” home. Joining Todd will be Jaime Harris – Bass, Eric David Mason  – Drums, Bill Aycock  – piano. Musicians, be sure to stop by, bring your instrument, and jam with the band! Admission is Free.

MATT WHITE AND THE SUPER VILLAIN JAZZ BAND

Blending everyday experiences with a touch a of humor, trumpeter Matt White and the Super Villain Jazz Band will take you on a fun musical journey with jazz as they explore life’s unique twists and turns. Their debut album received 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine. Joining Matt will be Simon Harding – Saxophone, Tim Fischer – Guitar, Kevin Hamilton -Bass, Quentin Baxter – Drums.
