Festive fun for the whole family! Join the CSO and the CSO Chorus for our annual holiday celebration! Principal Pops Conductor, Yuriy Bekker, leads this family-friendly holiday tradition that will feature “White Christmas,” “Klezmer Nutcracker,” “Ave Maria,” “12 Days of Christmas” (CSO-style), Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and many more sing-along favorites. The Charleston Children’s Chorus joins us, as well as special surprise appearances.

Underneath the Lintel tells the gripping story of an eccentric librarian who discovers a weather-beaten book in the overnight return box—113 years overdue. Sparked by a message left in its margins, he, in spite of the fact that he never left his native town of Hoofddorp, embarks on a magical quest that takes him around the world and 2,000 years into the past. With astonishing twists and turns, Underneath the Lintel draws us into an unforgettable odyssey.

The acclaimed Charleston Gospel Choir joins the Charleston Spiritual Ensemble and, for the first time, the Colour of Music Festival Chorale for the holidays to present the 16th Annual Gospel Christmas.

Providing the setting for the story of Christ’s birth through music, the Charleston Spiritual Ensemble opens the program with moving interpretations of sacred holiday music in the manner of the African-American Spiritual featuring talented mezzo soprano, Shanelle Woods. Williams Dawson’s Behold the Star and Jacqueline B. Hairston’s, Nowhere To Lay His Head are among classic sacred works from the Robert Shaw and Russell Bennett collection that include Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, O Sanctissima and Break Forth, and O Beauteous Heavenly Light.
