Theodora Park will present a two-day Pop-Up Exhibition of Mary Jackson’s Sweetgrass Baskets on May 24th and 25th.
The baskets will be displayed each day from 10:00am until 7:00pm.
There will be a Reception with the Artist on Saturday, May 25th from Noon until 2:00pm.
Mary Jackson is a world-renowned artist and the recipient of the coveted MacArthur Foundation ‘genius grant.’ Her sweetgrass baskets are in the collections of major museums and private collectors throughout the world, including the Gibbes Museum of Art that named its new Modern and Contemporary Gallery after her as part of its recent $17-million renovation.
Theodora Park, called “a beautifully tranquil public garden” by the New York Times, is located at the corner of Anson and George Streets in Charleston’s Ansonborough neighborhood.
The Mary Jackson Pop-Up Exhibition will be held to coincide with the first two days of Spoleto Festival USA. Theodora Park is across the street from Gaillard Center, the location for many major Spoleto Festival USA events.
