The Charleston Artist Guild announces Deborah Stanley Krzyzaniak as the featured artist for the month of October. Her exhibit entitled “Come as a Tourist, Leave as a Local”, explores what to see and do in Charleston from the perspective of a local.  The show will be on display at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery for the month of October.

As a native South Carolinian, Deborah moved to the Lowcountry as a teen.  She graduated from MUSC with a B.S. in Cytotechnology, and from Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Va.) with a M.S. in Science.   She is the mother of two college students and three poodles.  Currently, she is dividing her time between working as an artist in Charleston and teaching at Old Dominion University.

Deborah’s idea for the exhibit is derived mostly from her love of the Charleston gardens, landscape, and architecture.  She is a versatile artist, using oil, acrylic, pastels, and watercolor to express her art.

Her vibrant use of color can be attributed to plein air painting.  “Once I started getting outdoors to paint, I began seeing the colors as they really appeared, instead of relying solely on a photographs”.  The vivid colors can be seen in her marsh scenes from Kiawah and Sullivan’s Island to her paintings of flowers found in local gardens and plantations.
