The Charleston Artist Guild Gallery is pleased to present Carolina Sunsets, featuring an all new release of several beautiful original oil paintings from local artist, Betsy Jones McDonald. Betsy is the featured artist at the CAG Gallery during the month of April. Her exhibit will be on display from April 1 through April 30, 2019.
The exhibit, Carolina Sunsets, will include many large format oil paintings of our beautiful Lowcountry marshes illuminated by beautiful sunset skies. The paintings capture the beauty and color of our surroundings from the artist’s unique perspective. Betsy studied fine art at Columbus State University and worked in design and advertising, furthering her eye for great composition.
Betsy paints using only the primary colors (red, yellow and blue), plus white and custom mixes all of the beautiful colors for her paintings. The emphasis is on both color and brushstroke. “I love the colors of the marsh and the way they change with the seasons, light and tides,” she says. “Every time that you look at the marsh, you see something different and I am fascinated by that.” Betsy also teaches oil painting and color mixing through her workshops in Pawleys Island, SC.
Please join us for the opening reception, which is open to the public, on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery from 5-8 pm. The gallery, located at 160 East Bay Street, is open daily from 11- 6pm. Sales made at the gallery support the nonprofit Guild’s community outreach work.
