5th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival presents Robert Lewis Quartet

January 25, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+0

$25

Michael Brecker was the most influential and beloved tenor saxophonist since John Coltrane. His performances on hundreds of jazz, pop, R&B, and rock albums largely defined the sound of the saxophone through the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. He is widely admired for his contributions to albums by Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, John Lennon, and countless others, but it is his jazz recordings that completely re-imagined the possibilities of the saxophone and the genre of jazz.

An underrated aspect of Brecker’s artistry are his incredible compositions. These are amazingly detailed works playing with harmonies, forms and melodies that had not been heard before, all the while keeping the fire and emotion of the greatest jazz. The Robert Lewis Quartet will be performing several of these wonderful tunes that showcase this colossal side of Michale Brecker.

Robert Lewis is the Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Charleston, the incoming Director of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, and one of the most talented saxophonists in South Carolina. Robert will be joined by the dynamic rhythm section of Demetrius Doctor on piano, Ben Wells on bass, and David Patterson on drums.
Don’t miss this exciting concert as part of the 5th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival!
