Chamber Music Charleston continues their 15th Anniversary Season with a performance of music for string sextet at the Dock Street Theatre on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 7:30pm. Guest violinist Anthea Kreston joins musicians of CMC for Johannes Brahms String Sextet in B flat Major, Op. 18 and Felicien David’s Soirée d’Automne.
Violinist Anthea Kreston, former member of the internationally renowned Artemis String Quartet, has returned to the United States to continue her solo and chamber music career. As a member of the Artemis String Quartet, she enjoyed a robust concert schedule with regular appearances at major concert halls in Europe and the United States. She has received numerous awards for her chamber collaborations, including the grand prize at the Concert Artists Guild Competition and Europe’s Echo Award for recording. Ms. Kreston made her solo debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and continues to tour with the Amelia Piano Trio. She has also toured with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project and has been recognized by Chamber Music America for her groundbreaking work with abuse survivors and people with AIDS. Ms. Kreston holds a B.A. in women’s studies from Cleveland State University and a performance degree from the Curtis Institute of Music.
The concert opens with Felicien David’s Soirée d’Automne, a vibrant work for two violins, two viola and two celli that evokes the spirit of the Fall season with boisterous folk melodies and virtuosic lines. The concert concludes with Brahms’ masterful Sextet in B flat Major, Op. 18.
