Join Wild Common for a special Free Verse Poetry Festival preview event. This late-night poetry performance will feature brand new works from Amaker alongside readings from one of Charleston’s best literary talents, Asiah Tee. We will have a signature cocktail and mocktail on the menu, inspired by the night’s performances, alongside a menu of shareable snacks and bites from Chef Orlando Pagán. ABOUT MARCUS
Marcus Amaker is a karaoke singer, an Alice Coltrane fan and a donut eater. He is an award-winning graphic designer for a national music magazine (No Depression), and works with nonprofits to create websites, posters and videos. In 2010, he founded Charleston Scene for The Post and Courier. In 2017, he created the Free Verse: Charleston Poetry Festival. As a musician, he’s released 29 electronic albums and two records with Grammy-nominated producer Quentin E. Baxter of Ranky Tanky. Marcus was named Charleston’s first Poet Laureate in 2016, and has published seven books. He is a mentor for hundreds of local students. ABOUT ASIAH
AsiahMae is a poet and community curator in Charleston, SC. Her background as a theatre artist has lead her to poetry slams and stages such as the Soda City Story Slam (2016), The 4Love Series Tour ATL (2017), Rainbow Rowed (2017), and many more.
