CCPRC invites those with special needs to a Holiday Hoedown at Wannamaker County Park on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 6 – 8 p.m.
People with special needs, along with their families and caregivers are invited to this country-style holiday event, which will take place within the park’s Cypress Hall. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best western outfits to welcome in the holiday season with a big “yee-haw!” A DJ will be on-site to keep the hoedown rocking, and light refreshments will be served. Santa Claus, along with Mrs. Claus and Wattson, the Holiday Festival of Lights mascot, will be present to help the attendees kick off the holidays in a very merry way.
“The Holiday Hoedown started in 2012 and brings people with all abilities together to celebrate the holiday season,” said Melissa Bernhardt, festival and event coordinator for CCPRC. Tickets are $4 in advance or $5 at the event. Advance purchase is recommended and tickets can be purchased by calling 843-795-4386.
The Holiday Hoedown is a part of CCPRC’s AccessABILITY program. CCPRC’s AccessABILITY program strives to meet the growing needs of community members with disabilities. The program provides therapeutically-based recreation offerings for people with cognitive and physical disabilities to promote physical fitness, health, wellness, increased self-esteem and greater independence. Other CCPRC AccessABILITY program events include Special Needs Swim Nights at Charleston County waterparks each summer and the Special Needs Prom, held each August.
