OSCAR RIVERS TRIO WITH “MR. BLUES” WILLIAMS Followed by Festival Jazz Jam
Compelling Jazz and Blues vocalist Ermitt ‘Mr. Blues’ Williams moved to Charleston 14 years ago from New York, where he appeared in numerous renowned jazz clubs. Since moving to Charleston, he has released 2003’s A Tribute to Joe Williams and the 2006 album Just for You, which includes the Porgy and Bess favorite, Summertime, a track Williams says should be Charleston’s official theme song. Pianist Oscar Rivers, Charleston’s Jazz Patriarch, is a master bebop player who made a name for himself in 1970’s Chicago playing with everyone from Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Stevie Wonder, BB King, the Temptations, and the Quincy Jones Orchestra. Williams and Rivers are also both featured in An Encyclopedia of South Carolina Jazz and Blues Musicians, which documents the careers of South Carolinian jazz and blues musicians from the 19th century to the present. Don’t miss this rousing Jazz and Blues free party at Barsa Tapas Lounge and Bar. Following their set will be the ever-popular Charleston Jazz Jam Session until midnight.
